Ganga Somany's art finds its inspiration in another age. She is a traditionalist and a nostalgist and her love of beauty and her devotion to the depiction of that beauty on canvas charaterise her product. Almost uniquely among painters in modern India, she is locked in a past time, as if she had grown up in one of the old Art Schools of an earlier period.
